What is IMDG Class 9 surcharge for EV shipping?
Lithium-ion batteries are regulated as IMDG Class 9 hazardous cargo for maritime shipping. Container carriers apply a surcharge — typically USD 250-500 per unit — to cover documentation, blocking, fire-suppression preparation. RoRo has varied surcharge structure per carrier, sometimes free, sometimes USD 100-300. This is separate from ocean freight base cost and always disclosed in our CIF quote.
