How do you ship a car from China to Tajikistan?
Overland, not by sea — Tajikistan is landlocked. The direct route is the Kulma (Karasu) pass, China's only road crossing into Tajikistan: Kashgar to Tashkurgan, through Karasu port of entry, to Murghab and down the Pamir Highway to Dushanbe, roughly 6-10 days. The widely used alternative is Irkeshtam in Xinjiang to Osh, then Batken/Isfara to Khujand and Dushanbe, or transit via Uzbekistan. Chinese TIR car carriers are the usual mode.
What is the import duty on a used car into Tajikistan?
10% customs duty on HS 8703, plus excise of 10% with a floor of about EUR 0.15 per cc, plus 14% VAT — the standard VAT rate since 1 January 2024, though most used-car guides still quote the old 18%. The 10% duty figure is the most consistently reported rate; some guides claim 12% and older sources claim 5%. We quote per unit rather than publishing a single headline rate.
How old can an imported car be for Tajikistan?
Vehicles manufactured before 2013 are banned from import under Government Decree No. 355 of 2 August 2023, in force from 2 October 2023 — it replaced the earlier pre-2005 ban and works as a rolling roughly 13-year cap. Tajikistan also requires Euro-4 emissions minimum, ABS, and a DPF on diesels.
What certificate does a used car need for Tajikistan?
A national certificate of conformity (сертификат соответствия) under Tajikistan's Law on Technical Regulation, which also carries the Euro-4 minimum, the ABS requirement and the diesel DPF requirement. Note that Tajikistan is not an EAEU member, so EAEU type approval and the EAC mark do not apply here despite what some guides claim. Right-hand drive has been banned from import since February 2008 and from operation since April 2008.
