What is the import duty on a used car into Uzbekistan?
Duty depends on vehicle age: 15% of value for cars under 1 year, 30% for 1-3 years, and 40% for over 3 years, each with a per-cc charge on top — roughly $0.80-1.50/cc under 1 year, $1.80-3.00/cc for 1-3 years, and about $3.00/cc for over 3 years. Then 12% VAT on customs value plus duty, plus a recycling fee scaled by engine size and age. Small-engine preferential rates expired on 1 January 2026, so standard rates now apply across all engine sizes. Uzbekistan levies no separate excise on imported passenger cars — the per-cc floor is what carries the engine-size progression.
How do cars get from China to Uzbekistan?
By land — there is no direct China-Uzbekistan border. The road route runs the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan corridor that opened in February 2023: Kashgar to Irkeshtam, to Osh, to Andijan via the Dustlik crossing, then on to Tashkent, about 900-950 km. Commercial TIR car carriers quote 7-10 days. The rail alternative goes through the Khorgos or Alashankou dry ports in Xinjiang into Kazakhstan, with a gauge change from 1435 mm to 1520 mm, quoted at 14-18 days.
What certificate does a used car need for Uzbekistan?
A certificate of conformity under the General Technical Regulation on the Safety of Wheeled Vehicles, Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 237 of 25 April 2017 (UzTR 237). Minimum Euro-4 for petrol and Euro-5 for diesel, evidenced by the manufacturer's letter or the producing country's act. Separate environmental certification was abolished by Cabinet Resolution No. 597 of 19 September 2025, and pure EVs are exempt from the emissions conformity assessment entirely.
Is right-hand drive allowed in Uzbekistan?
No. Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 90 of 17 February 1993 prohibited registration of right-hand-drive vehicles from 1 March 1993 and their operation from 1 July 1993, regardless of ownership. The only carve-out is temporary transit and use of up to one month by foreign nationals. Left-hand drive is mandatory, which suits our China-domestic stock.
