If you ask us to name the single segment with the highest inquiry volume every month, it's Chinese compact SUV: sub-4.5m length, sub-USD 20,000 FOB, 5-seat family use. This piece compares the three names your Egyptian, Kazakh, Nigerian or Iraqi customer will most likely be asking about — with real numbers and the trade-offs we see on the actual delivery side.

BYD Yuan Plus (Atto 3 in export markets) — the Bestseller

60.48 kWh LFP Blade battery (long-range trim) or 49.9 kWh (standard). CLTC range 510 or 430 km. Real-world highway range 350-420 km depending on temperature. What makes Yuan Plus the volume winner: LFP chemistry handles Middle East 45°C summers without meaningful degradation, and BYD parts are stocked by third-party importers in Egypt, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, UAE. Interior is polarizing (love-it-or-hate-it "gym-inspired" design) but function is fine. FOB Shanghai USD 15,500-20,500 for 2023 used unit with 15,000-40,000 km.

Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max / Tiggo 8 Pro Max — Petrol Reliability

Not an EV — Chery's petrol offer competes against BYD Yuan Plus in markets where charging infrastructure isn't practical yet (much of Nigeria, rural Kazakhstan, Iraq outside Baghdad/Erbil). 1.5T or 1.6T petrol, 7-speed DCT. Real fuel consumption 7.5-9L/100 km. Interior punches well above the price point — soft-touch materials, ambient lighting, 12" screen. Chery has invested heavily in Middle East distribution over the last three years so parts pipeline is faster than most Chinese brands here. FOB USD 12,500-16,000 for 2022-2023 used.

GAC Emkoo (M8 / GS4 family) — the Comfort Choice

1.5T + hybrid or straight 1.5T petrol depending on trim. Where GAC wins is ride quality — genuinely better shock damping than Chery or BYD Yuan Plus, and interior noise level 3-5 dB lower at highway speed. Where GAC loses is export volume: fewer units in used market, so if your customer wants a specific color or trim it can add 2-3 weeks of sourcing. FOB USD 13,000-17,000.

Which for Which Buyer

  • Egypt (EV incentive) — BYD Yuan Plus wins outright: EV import duty 15% vs 40-135% for ICE. Yuan Plus is the highest-volume Chinese EV entering Alexandria and Damietta ports 2025-2026.
  • Nigeria — Chery Tiggo 7 wins: petrol infrastructure, dealer parts network, and 15-year age limit means used unit is acceptable.
  • Kazakhstan / Uzbekistan — Yuan Plus for city buyers with home charging; Chery Tiggo for buyers outside Almaty/Tashkent.
  • Iraq — Chery Tiggo 7 (fuel is cheap, EV infrastructure minimal outside Erbil).
