Egypt tightened used-car import rules in 2018 and again in 2022, but the 2024 EV import framework reopened the door — meaningfully. Chinese EV imports through Alexandria, Damietta and Sokhna ports have grown at triple-digit rates over the last 18 months. Age Restriction — the Non-Negotiable Rule

• ICE passenger vehicle: Must be within the current model year (effectively brand-new only, no used ICE cars). Very limited exceptions exist for special-use vehicles.
• EV / hybrid passenger vehicle: Up to 3 model years old is currently accepted for the EV incentive program (subject to policy update — verify at time of order).
• Commercial vehicle: Different rules; contact us with specific use case.

Duty & Tax Structure (2026 baseline)

• EV passenger: Import duty roughly 15% + VAT 14% + development fee ~2%. Effective total tax typically 30-35%.
• ICE passenger (rare, high-end only): Duty scales with engine displacement: 40% for ≤1.6L, 100% for 1.6-2.0L, 135% for >2.0L, plus VAT and fees.
• Registration & licensing: Additional local fees ~EGP 5,000-15,000.

Certification & Documents Required Before Shipment Leaves China

• GOEIC pre-shipment inspection certificate (issued by the General Organization for Export and Import Control).
• Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading.
• Certificate of Origin (China-Egypt trade framework applicable).
• Manufacturer's conformity certificate specific to the model/VIN.
• For EV: battery State-of-Health report and charging specification document.

Ports & Shipping Times

• Alexandria — 40-46 days from Shanghai (main route). Container preferred; RoRo available.
• Damietta — 42-48 days from Shanghai. Container preferred, EV-friendly infrastructure.
• Sokhna (Ain Sokhna, Red Sea) — 30-35 days from Shanghai via Suez routing. Container only.

VIN Verification Before You Pay

The most common Egypt import problem is VIN mismatch between quoted specification and physical vehicle. Insist on:

• Chassis-plate photo of full VIN.
• Engine bay VIN stamp photo (secondary location).
• Ownership certificate showing VIN and matching your invoice.
• Walk-around video showing VIN plate clearly in single continuous take.
